About the Book:
Title: The Seventh Sun
Series: Age of the Seventh Sun #1
Author: Lani Forbes
Publisher: Blackstone Publishing
Publishing Date: February 18th, 2020
Genres: YA Fantasy
Thrust into leadership upon the death of his emperor father, young Prince Ahkin feels completely unready for his new position. Though his royal blood controls the power of the sun, he’s now re- sponsible for the lives of all the Chicome people. And despite all Ahkin’s efforts, the sun is fading—and the end of the world may be at hand.
For Mayana, the only daughter of the Chicome family whose blood controls the power of water, the old emperor’s death may mean that she is next. Prince Ahkin must be married before he can ascend the throne, and Mayana is one of six noble daughters presented to him as a possible wife. Those who are not chosen will be sacrificed to the gods.
Only one girl can become Ahkin’s bride. Ahkin feels an immediate connection with Mayana, but the gods themselves may be against them. Both recognize that the ancient rites of blood that keep the gods appeased may be harming the Chicome more than they help. As a bloodred comet and the fading sun bring a growing sense of dread, only two young people may hope to change their world.
Rich in imagination and romance, and based on the legends and history of the Aztec and Mayan people, The Seventh Sun brings to vivid life a world on the edge of apocalyptic disaster.
First of all, I’d like to thank MTMC Tours for having me! I’ve had such a fun time both reading the book and looking for important moments to make an aesthetic board of. Anyway, here’s mine:
I’m not the best at editing photos but I had a lovely time putting this together. As you can see from this aesthetic board alone, Lani Forbes has written a book full of Aztec and Mayan culture. Reading about all the descriptions made me want to go on an adventure. The world is described so vividly, I could see the landscapes before me. The feeling of the sun on my skin and the sound of water. This book made me interested in their culture and I couldn’t get enough of it.
The characters were amazing from the very first page. I really liked the romance and the friendships! The family dynamics were interesting to read about as well. I’m not lying when I say that the romance made me stay till midnight reading because I couldn’t get enough of it!
I enjoyed how fast-paced the story went as well. That ending! I had no idea what to expect and I loved the twists and turns.
Overall I recommend this to fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Selection. The Seventh Sun is the perfect combination of those fandoms along with insta-love and a fantasy world rich with culture.
